Reiki is one of the most widely known forms of healing through direct application of Chi, or energy. It is one of the most ancient healing techniques known to mankind. It has been said that both Jesus and Buddha did Reiki.
Reiki is made up of two syllables: "rei" meaning universal life force energy and "ki" meaning the fundamental life force with flows through all living things. Mystics in every culture have talked for centuries about the physical universe being made of an underlying simple form of energy. Modern research is now coming to understand that the Universe is made of energy which is subject to, and even affected by, thoughts and intentions.
Imagine the implications of the universe around us made from energy which can be shaped by positive thoughts and intentions. There has been much research showing that prayer improves the health of those who are prayed for. A focused intent in prayer sends thoughts out in the form of loving, spiritual energy. So, if the world is made entirely of energy (Chi) and is subject to the power of thought, then prayers must work.
Since the word Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy, the technique I use myself, is called the Usui System of Natural Healing after the founder of the system, Dr. Mikao Usui in combination with Karuna® Reiki founded by William Rand of the International Center for Reiki Training.
Karuna® and USUI combined in a relaxed, peaceful setting provides optimum healing in just the right amounts for what the client needs at the time. This is a powerful healing session that leaves the client feeling relaxed and renewed.
Reiki is a natural and simple healing method allowing you to absorb more life force energy. Reiki is beneficial for all living things. It is one of many forms of healing through the use of the natural forces passed down by ancient mystics. Some other forms of healing using (Chi) energy forces are Chi Gong, Pranic Healing, and Polarity Balancing.
Reiki energy flows through the hands of a trained and concentrated Practitioner. The placing of hands, upon different energy chakras in the body, gives direction to the energy therefore creating healing in the body of the receiver. Reiki effects each person differently, but always acts where the receiver needs it the most. Energy that has been used up by physical illness, mental and emotional stress are restored leaving the client feeling relaxed, calm and refreshed.
A Reiki healing is very simply performed. The practitioner places his or her hands upon the person to be healed with the intent for healing to occur, and then the energy begins flowing. The Reiki energy is intelligent since the Universe, as we all are aware, is supreme intelligence. The energy knows where to go, and what to do once it gets there. The energy manages its own flow to and within the recipient. It draws through the healer the exact amount of energy which the recipient needs. All this happens without direct conscious intervention by the healer. A Reiki practitioner is simply the conduit for universal life energy. The healers job is to keep the healing space open, and to watch/listen for signs of what to do next.
Unlike a massage, one does not have to take their clothing off to benefit from the healing process of Reiki. In fact, a typical session consists of the Reiki practitioners' strategic placement of hands on or slightly above the client's body, which channels universal energy through the practitioner's body into the problemed area. The universal life force energy knows what the problem is and goes where it needs to. This energy serves as a means of cleansing the body of unhealthy toxins, reducing stress, loosening blocked energy, accelerating the body's natural healing abilities, and relieving pain, through its calming effect on the emotions and mind of the client.

In a standard Reiki treatment energy flows the hands of the practitioner into the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. The client remains fully clothed. Belinda places her hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the clients needs. Each position is held for three to five minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. Total treatment is usually an hour. Deep relaxation, is usually felt. One usually feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook It is usually done in a peaceful and relaxed environment to allow for optimum relaxation.
